Deepak Chopra (Hindi: दीपक चोपड़ा ; born October 22, 1946) is an Indian-born American physician and writer who has authored several books. Founder of Chopra Health Center in California, 1995.
Early life and education
Born in New Delhi, India, in 1947, his father is Krishan Chopra, a famous Indian cardiologist. He studied medicine at the University of India in his home country. He immigrated to the United States in 1970 as a medical intern in New Jersey. After completing the training period, he moved to Boston, where he became famous. He was not a fan of Western medicine in the way of treatment and prescribing drugs, so he found his way after reading a book on Transcendental Medicine Techniques. He delved into the study of alternative medicine, and conducted a general survey on the shortcomings of Western medicine in treating diseases. He then met the godfather of the Maharishi School of Transcendental Meditation, Maharishi Yogi, and decided to leave the profession of medicine and participate in Maharishi's Alternative Medicine Products Company, which was the beginning of his rise to fame in the world of alternative medicine, where a group of Hollywood stars flocked to him, and he was later called a celebrity doctor.
