When Michael and the boys in The Jackson 5 left Motown for greener pastures, a name change was in order (especially since Jermaine chose to remain at their old label) so they became the Jacksons. Hits followed in their wake including 'Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground', 'Enjoy Yourself', 'State of Shock' and others. It didn't hurt that Michael's solo career took off in the midst of the Jackson's tenure at Epic, which helped raise their profile even further.
