When proposing the idea of ​​the Renaissance, that proposition always collides with two types of people, the conservatives and the advocates of modernity. Conservatives cling to the old forms, and the advocates of modernity look to foreign forms, the former drag Islam back into the past, and the others plunge Islam into the maze of a foreign future. Despite this difference, these two types of people have one thing in common. Both look at Islam from a narrow angle, seeing in it nothing but an "abstract religion" in the European sense of this phrase. We see in this situation a failure in understanding the language and logic of Islam, but rather a greater failure in understanding the spirit of Islam and its role in history and the world. This shortcoming has led to a grave misunderstanding of Islam by reducing it to a mere “religion,” and this is a completely wrong idea.
