In the business world, this absence leads to miscommunication and misunderstanding, and to a great deal of retry, workarounds, and relationship repair. This is costly and ineffective, causing ruptures in relationships, missed opportunities, and countless lost connections. Since we make decisions based on our emotions, when we take them away from communication, audio conference, or webinars, it becomes impossible to make good decisions when we are swept away by the virtual current. And in our personal lives the same problems happen, especially when we try to contact someone remotely and virtually, and this is very costly in many ways, not easy to measure. The result of this huge social experiment is increased loneliness and social isolation, fear of missed opportunities, envy via Facebook or Instagram, and unfortunately teen depression, and sometimes even suicide, and we may raise a generation of people who are unhappy with virtual communication, and not adept at communicating face to face. Some of us who are partly connected to the world of face-to-face communication, part to the virtual world are torn apart, we are attached to both worlds, but we do not have the time to master either, or feel completely comfortable in either. What to do? The experiment will continue, as we cannot do without our devices, as much of our work and personal lives depend on the virtual world, and in fact, most organizations with a global reach cannot operate without the digital means of communication that they use on a daily basis. But we need to learn to live smarter and communicate differently; To survive the bold new virtual world, we need to consciously begin adding emotional implication to virtual communication again; This is to avoid material personal losses associated with miscommunication.
