2015 three CD set. Power Pop emerged as early as the 1960s with The Beatles being cited as the melodic mothership from which it all emerged. Characterized by strong melodies, clear vocals and harmonies, plus catchy guitar riffs and sometimes keyboards, the genre can be used to describe bands (Big Star, The Knack etc) to certain songs by bands who aren't pure-bred Power Pop (Blondie, The Bangles) and vice versa. This compilation presents some of the unmistakable Power Pop classics from The Raspberries' 'Go All The Way' to Weezer's 'Buddy Holly' and takes in lots more rollickingly good examples along the way. Kicking off with The Feeling's 'Love It When You Call' and The Fratellis' 'Chelsea Dagger' (two relatively modern - and totally worthy - additions to the Power Pop canon) this set doubles up as a scorching driving album.
