Born in Algeria (and now living in Paris, France), Khaled has been banished from performing in his homeland for making himself an enemy of Muslim fundamentalists and is heralded by the youth of North Africa as the "King of Rai" ("rai" being the traditional "night" music of Algeria). Sahra ("sahara"), his 3rd album, continues his career association with producer Don Was and reflects the stark beauty of the Saharan desert in a set of primitive and futuristic musical crossbreeds that include Western and world music styles.
